About Ayesha

My name is Ayesha Chidolue a daughter of immigrants. I am an American born Nigerian. My story began when my parents were here on student visas, fell in love and got married. Two siblings and I were born in the U.S. but we moved back to Nigeria for elementary and secondary school.

My youngest sibling wasn’t born in the U.S. I moved back to America when I finished high school at 17 and went to college in NY, after college I moved to Washington D.C to attend Law School. Moved back to NY to work on Wall Street.

Because my siblings and I understood the gift of citizenship, we returned the favor to our parents and filed for both of them. However, we couldn’t do it as easily for my youngest sibling.

My husband came to the United States by the stroke of luck, winning a Diversity Visa lottery just before it was banned in Nigeria. He is now a U.S. Citizen.

Why do I tell you this ?

I tell you this because I am one image of the immigrant experience.

I know that a lot of times when people talk to lawyers, they feel they could never understand their situation or what you’ve gone through but trust me when I say I do. My youngest brother who wasn’t as fortunate to be born here waited 10+ years to become a GC holder. It was painful and stressful knowing that your whole family is a citizen but yet you are stuck!

It was an experience for me also moving back to the U.S. alone at 17. It was just my 19 year old sister and I and eventually my third sibling joined us. We had to navigate America ourselves ALONE.

We had several jobs from gas station attendant to CNA to cashier when we had never worked a day in our lives in Nigeria just to put ourselves through school. It was rough but we survived, we were resilient and we made it! I know all our journeys are different but the trajectory of my families’ lives was changed by our citizenship status.

My mission is to impart as many immigrant lives as ours. My name is Ayesha Chidolue and I am an immigrant. I am here for you.
